Community mapping (DC1 blog entry #4)

For me community mapping is an approach that enables us to navigate and know our community. It is a method that helps us stay on track to wherever we want to go. It is a good representation of the area and is an excellent way in better understanding the community. I've learned from both exercises that being meticulous in important details is very essential so that people will not get confused and puzzled out. Our experience in community mapping was somewhat tiring but at the same time, a lot of fun. We were able to appreciate more the community and was able to acquire new information about it.

Community mapping can help others locate certain areas and at the same time, can improve parts of the community that needs development.

the cryptic truth....

Our world is at stake right now. We are in a midst of a undesirable conflict and a horrid bloodshed. It is what eats up the peace that used to reign in the world especially here in Mindanao.

Beholding the pictures at the photo exhibit entitled: "Mindanao War" uncovered so many ways of reality. Some people are use to live unacquainted with the truth that is occurring in our nation and the photo exhibit portrays a whole new world that some of us haven't catch sight of. It exposed my mind and my perception about reality and made me come to realize that what my life right now, is just one of the million pieces in the puzzle that exemplifies the real world. Looking at the pictures, I felt sad and angry at the same time. The only thing that was on my mind while scanning the pictures were silence. I was overwhelmed by the destructive and morbid ways and how it really affected the people. This war must be stopped and to be discontinued. It has gone too far and my frustrated mind want to do something to eliminate the war here in Mindanao. But what can a mere college freshmen do? I guess the best way to help is to pray for the people who are afflicted by the cold and cruel war. To pray for the courageous photojournalists who found ways to channel out the horrific truth. To pray for the brave men and women who fought for peace and unity. To pray for those who were against peace that they may find harmony in their hearts. And pray for those people, who live their lives as if nothing seriously is occurring right now, that they may see the reality of the cold war. May our world be as peaceful as God intended it to be...

The Millennium Development Goal that affected me the most...

The Millennium Development Goal are 8 goals to fight the 8 major problems that our world is facing right now. It is a UN organization that seeks support and help from different leaders in the world.

The Millennium Development Goal that affected me the most is goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability. Mother Earth right now is having environmental issues. We are facing the consequences of our own actions and it is time to end it. Goal 7 seeks to reduce biodiversity loss, reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation and achieve significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers, by 2020. Some people don't have the proper environment to live in and hopefully, goal 7 will succeed it's purpose.

what is development??

for me development is a process all of us undergo. We encounter new things in life and learn things from our surroundings. It is about improving our lives as human beings and understanding other people's personalities. Knowing our true potentials and discovering are hidden talents.

what is communication??

For me communication is a way of expressing one's thought, action or emotion to connect to others. It is conveyed through different ways. It serves as a bridge between two or more parties to provide information, mutual understanding, and sympathy. Communication plays a vital role in our day to day lives. Without it, life as we know it would be meaningless...that's all for today...have a good weekend!
